“There's a herd of great new bands coming out of Brisbane, and The Rooftops are in the leading pack”
Bill Hauritz – Woodford Folk Festival Director
Well known in Brisbane from their long term inner city residency at The Bowery in Fortitude Valley, The Rooftops' infectious, feet-friendly grooves, soulful storytelling and
sun-drenched vibes has seen them develop a strong and dedicated home town fan base.
Having recently graced the boards of the Brisbane Festival (sold out), Fuse Festival in Adelaide, Noosa Jazz Festival and many more, The Rooftops' uplifting, dancing-barefoot-in-the-streets brand of soul, jazz, reggae and pop is swiftly earning them a rep as festival favorites as well. Their highly-acclaimed debut at the most recent Woodford Folk Festival was a particular highlight on this front, with many punters proclaiming them the ‘find’ of the festival .
Now, fresh from recording their third and most realised album to date in Sydney with soul legend, vocal coach and fellow Woodford favourite, Mr Percival, it is with great enthusiasm and expectation that they will be embarking on their first National tour to promote the first single from the album in October / November 2010.
The single in question, and the first taste of the new album, is Something So Familiar. In the words of The Rooftops front-man Euan Gray, it’s “a song about coming home. About the phenomenon of people aching to go and explore the world only to realize when they come back that for all its faults, home is actually a pretty good place after all. That there is something very comforting about returning to what we know – to the people, the landscape, the lifestyle... to Something So Familiar! The song was a big hit at Woodford last year. We’ve had messages from people who saw us there and who’ve since gone overseas, wanting to hear the song again to
reconnect with home.”
